MAWRYNGKNENG: The District Administration has taken stern action against organizers of a massive fishing competition and lucky draw event in Mawryngkneng that caused severe traffic congestion on August 29, 2026.
With prizes totaling over ₹30 lakh, the event led to widespread disruption in the area.
Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal announced that a show-cause notice has been issued to the organizers, and the police have been instructed to file FIRs for violating official permission conditions and for causing public nuisance under the Motor Vehicles Act.

To prevent future incidents, Baranwal said organizers will be required to submit detailed event information in advance, with mandatory joint inspections by police, local Dorbar Shnong, civil administration, and the Fisheries Department.
The administration is also developing a mechanism to impose monetary penalties on private event organizers whose activities result in significant public disruption.
