SHILLONG: The Government of Meghalaya has officially invited the Central Executive Council (CEC) of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) for a crucial meeting with Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on August 26, 2026, to address the union’s five key demands.
The meeting, confirmed in a communication from Smti. D.D. Syngai, MCS, Joint Secretary (Home Political Department), is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Meghalaya Secretariat’s Main Building in Shillong, following acceptance by KSU Assistant General Secretary Pynshaiborlang Rani.
This development comes on the same day that current and former KSU CEC leaders visited four detained union executives at Shillong District Jail.
The leaders—President Raymond Kharjana, Vice President Pynkmen Sanmiet, General Secretary Rueben A. Najiar, and Jerimaiah Pohthmi—were arrested following violence during the KSU’s ‘Black Flag Bike Rally’ on August 19.

The first three had been transferred to Garo Hills correctional facilities but were returned to Shillong Jail on August 25 to aid the ongoing investigation. Pohthmi, arrested on August 24, remains in Shillong.
During the visit, former KSU President Lambokstarwell Marngar and former General Secretary Donald Thabah confirmed that all detained leaders are in good health and receiving necessary medical care.
Following the jail visit and the invitation from the state government, the KSU CEC resolved to participate in the Secretariat talks and will press forward with the union’s five-point charter of demands.
