SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee staged a surprise protest on Wednesday night outside Raj Bhavan in Shillong, condemning the alleged use of force against Opposition Members of Parliament during a protest in New Delhi.
Congress leaders and workers gathered outside the Governor’s House, carrying placards and banners and raising slogans against the Centre. The demonstrators accused the government of acting unconstitutionally against Opposition MPs and demanded that a discussion be allowed on pressing issues in Parliament.
Speaking to reporters, Congress General Secretary Manuel Badwar claimed that approximately 50 MPs had marched towards the Prime Minister’s residence, alleging that force was used to disperse them. He further alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was manhandled, claiming that the “diktat came from the top.”
“We are only demanding a discussion in Parliament. The plight of the people must be heard by the Government, but they remain silent,” Badwar said.

He described the protests as part of a nationwide movement, criticising the Prime Minister and Central Government for ignoring people’s grievances.
“We have voiced our frustration. We have demanded his resignation in the past, but he has never taken responsibility, whether it is Manipur or the plight of students. Everything is scripted,” he alleged.
Badwar also accused the Centre of favoring only “certain people and industrialists” while neglecting the concerns of ordinary citizens.
The protest concluded with Congress leaders reiterating their demand for accountability from the Central Government and calling for an open discussion on key issues in Parliament.
