SHILLONG: A high-level review meeting to assess preparedness for the smooth and successful conduct of the rescheduled National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) 2026, scheduled to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 21, was held on Friday at Committee Room-III of the Additional Secretariat Building in Shillong.
The meeting was chaired by B. Mawlong, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Health & Family Welfare Department.
During the review, Mawlong took stock of the arrangements put in place by the district administrations and other stakeholders in districts hosting examination centres. He stressed the need to ensure the examination is conducted in a peaceful, secure and hassle-free manner and urged all concerned departments and agencies to maintain close coordination in providing a conducive environment for candidates.
Officials from the respective districts briefed the chair on the measures undertaken to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination, including security arrangements, transportation facilities, uninterrupted power supply, deployment of personnel and other logistical preparations.
A total of 14 examination centres have been designated across Meghalaya for the conduct of NEET-UG 2026. Of these, 10 centres are located in Shillong, two in Tura, one in Jowai and one at the North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) campus near Umiam in Ri-Bhoi district.
Altogether, 4,164 candidates are scheduled to appear for the examination on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
The meeting was attended by Dr S. Rajan, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Education, Government of India; Dr R. Marak, Joint Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya; and officials from the district administrations and other concerned departments.
The participants expressed confidence that all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure the successful conduct of NEET-UG 2026 across the state.
