Meghalaya Govt Standardises Roadside Parking Fees Across Greater Shillong Area

The notification stated that the revised rates came into effect immediately from the date of issuance of the order.

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government has revised and standardised parking fees for roadside parking spaces across Shillong and nearby areas under the Greater Shillong Planning Area following reports of varying charges being imposed in different localities.

Previously, parking rates differed from one locality to another, with some parking operators charging as high as Rs 40 per hour and others charging Rs 30 per hour for four-wheeler vehicles.
In a notification issued on April 27, 2026, Commissioner and Secretary of the Urban Affairs Department, Dr. Vijay Kumar, informed that the government has revised the parking fee structure and abolished the earlier categorisation of “High Demand” and “Low Demand” parking zones.
Under the new rates notified by the government, four-wheelers parked along roadside parking areas will now be charged a uniform fee of Rs 20 per hour, while two-wheelers will be charged Rs 10 per hour.
The notification stated that the revised rates came into effect immediately from the date of issuance of the order.
The government has also circulated the notification to Rangbah shnong and local authorities to ensure awareness and proper implementation of the revised parking regulations and fee structure across the region.
