SHILLONG: The Khet Bachao Abhiyan Rabi Campaign began in Meghalaya on October 22 and will run through November 30, 2026, aiming to raise awareness among farmers about soil health, improved agricultural practices, and the use of appropriate farm tools to boost productivity and safety.
As part of the campaign, scientists from ICAR visited Umsarang village in Ri-Bhoi district, engaging 20 farmers—equally divided between men and women—on the importance of soil testing, proper nutrient management, and liming to improve soil fertility and correct acidity.
The team also emphasized mechanization for hilly terrain to reduce manual labor and occupational health risks.
Farmers received practical support, including 20 small farm tools, 5 kg of French bean seeds, and 5 kg of coriander seeds.
The campaign also reached Puriang village in East Khasi Hills, where 30 farmers, mostly women, participated.
Activities focused on soil management, liming, and the advantages of suitable agricultural machinery.
Running until November 30, the campaign aims to spread practical agricultural knowledge across Meghalaya, encouraging sustainable practices, improved soil health, and reduced physical challenges for farmers—especially women—in hilly regions.
