SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has stated that the Meghalaya government will raise its long-standing demands for the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution if it gets the opportunity during the visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Addressing queries on whether these issues would be discussed, Tynsong said the upcoming plenary session on Thursday is expected to focus mainly on matters concerning the North Eastern Council (NEC).
He, however, added that the state government would not hesitate to place Meghalaya’s pending demands before the Union Home Minister if a meeting is held during the visit.
“We will certainly take the opportunity to apprise the Hon’ble Home Minister of the issues concerning Meghalaya, including the demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit and the inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule. These resolutions have already been adopted by the State Assembly,” Tynsong said.
He reiterated that the government remains committed to pursuing these issues with the Centre.
