SHILLONG: Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) candidate Prof. Batskhem Myrboh on Thursday expressed strong confidence in the party’s prospects for retaining the Shillong Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming by-election.
He emphasized that the VPP’s campaign is rooted in its core ideology, organizational strength, and public goodwill—rather than preoccupation with the strategies of political rivals.
The seat was vacated following the sudden demise of sitting Lok Sabha MP and senior VPP leader Dr. Ricky A.J. Syngkon in February.
Dismissing assertions that National People’s Party (NPP) nominee Dr. D.L. Nonglait, also president of the Khasi Authors’ Society, poses a serious challenge, Myrboh reiterated that the VPP’s strategy remains focused on its own agenda and grassroots support.
“We are concentrating on our politics, our issues, and our strengths. We do not see any threat from rival candidatures and are confident the VPP will emerge victorious when votes are counted,” he said.

Tracking the party’s expanding influence across the Khasi-Jaintia Hills, Myrboh attributed growing voter support to the VPP’s principles, clear policies, and unwavering commitment to clean politics and public welfare.
He expressed optimism that the party will not only retain its base but also expand its electorate in the by-election.
Reflecting on the VPP’s rapid rise since its inception in 2021, he pointed to the party’s electoral successes and advocacy for public issues as evidence of its credibility and strength.
Addressing reports of party leaders defecting to rival camps, Myrboh dismissed them as exaggerated.
He noted that while the VPP continues to attract new supporters without making loud claims, the outcome of the Lok Sabha by-election will speak for itself.
