Negligence Allegations in NEHU Accident: MHRC Issues Notice to Health Authorities

The move comes amid rising concerns from the NEHU community over emergency response lapses and alleged medical negligence.

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of reports alleging negligence by medical staff at Shillong Civil Hospital in connection with the recent NEHU accident case.

According to a report published on 24 November 2025 in a Shillong-based English daily, family members and students alleged that one of the injured students was left unattended and bleeding for nearly an hour before being shifted to Nazareth Hospital.

Taking note of the incident, the MHRC has issued a notice to the Director of Health Services (MI), Government of Meghalaya, directing an immediate and thorough inquiry. The Commission has asked for a detailed report to be submitted on or before 7 January 2026.
