SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday reiterated that the Meghalaya Government remains open to dialogue, even as protests intensify over the proposed Lumpondeng Resort Project at Umiam.
Reacting to queries regarding the indefinite hunger strike staged by the Chairman of the Green Tech Foundation, Tynsong said the government has consistently made efforts to engage and clarify concerns raised by stakeholders.
“The doors of the government are always open. That is why we have been continuously clarifying and reaching out to them,” he said.
While expressing confidence that the concerns of the protestors have been addressed, the Deputy Chief Minister added that the government is willing to provide further explanations if required. “I am sure they understand, but if they are still not satisfied, the door of the government remains open for further clarification,” he stated.
Tynsong also urged the public to independently assess the motivations behind the ongoing agitation. “Let the people judge whether there is any political ploy behind the movement initiated by the Green Tech Foundation,” he remarked, maintaining that the government’s role is limited to placing facts before the public.
Reaffirming the state’s commitment to the project, the Deputy Chief Minister made it clear that the government will proceed with its plans. “We are going ahead with the project. There is no question of backing out from the plan to develop the luxury hotel in the Orchid Area at Umiam,” he asserted.
The remarks come amid heightened tensions surrounding the proposed development, with environmental concerns and demands for greater transparency continuing to fuel public debate.
