SHILLONG: Residents of Nongspung A village in Ri Bhoi district have appealed to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma to expedite the promised construction of a new school building, citing serious concerns over delays and alleged design flaws.
The project, assured by the CM during his May 2025 visit under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF), has seen little progress despite repeated follow-ups.
In a formal complaint submitted on October 17, villagers alleged that the proposed building design—prepared by an SSA civil engineer without a site visit—does not match the school’s land area and only accommodates the Lower Primary section, while the current facility houses both Lower and Upper Primary sections.
The villagers called for an inquiry into the design process, a review and correction of the plan to reflect actual site conditions and student needs, and greater consultation with the village dorbar before approval.
They stressed that correcting design flaws should not further delay the project, which is vital for Nongspung A’s ambition to become a Smart Model Village.
The complaint was also sent to the Education Minister, local MLA, and relevant education officials.
Villagers urged the Chief Minister to ensure timely, technically sound implementation, so the new school building can deliver lasting benefits to local children.
