SHILLONG: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum on Thursday raised strong concern over the recurring power outages in his constituency, stating that the frequent disruption of electricity has caused widespread inconvenience to residents.

Speaking to reporters, Adelbert Nongrum questioned the reason behind the intermittent power cuts, which he said occur multiple times a day and at times even during the night. He noted that the situation is particularly troubling for students currently appearing for their examinations.

The MLA informed that he has sought clarification from Power Minister Metbah Lyngdoh and has also sent an official communication via email urging the department and its officials to take necessary action.

Stating that citizens have every right to demand answers since they pay for the use of electricity, Nongrum asked whether the power outages are isolated to North Shillong or are affecting the entire state. If the issue is specific to his constituency, he demanded an explanation and accountability from those responsible.

He further urged the Power Department to immediately address the matter, emphasising that public inconvenience should not be taken lightly. Nongrum said officials, regardless of their positions, must take responsibility, and he called on the Power Minister to ensure a prompt resolution to the problem.
