STP reiterated its commitment to making the city a zero road fatality zone through sustained enforcement and public cooperation.

SHILLONG: In a continued push towards achieving zero road fatalities, Shillong Traffic Police (STP) carried out a synchronised multi-point NAKA checking drive across the city on the night of June 26 under “Operation Safer Shillong.”

The enforcement drive, conducted in collaboration with the Special Operation Team (SOT) and with support from members of the Laitumkhrah Dorbar, targeted key traffic violations including drunken driving, illegal vehicle modifications, and other offences.

According to official sources, a total of 80 cases were detected during the enforcement drive, with fines amounting to ₹81,500 collected from violators.

Authorities adopted strict measures against drunken driving, ensuring that individuals found under the influence of alcohol were not allowed to continue driving. Such offenders were released only after a responsible person arrived to escort them home safely.

Officials stated that similar weekend enforcement drives will be conducted regularly as part of the ongoing initiative. The primary objective of the drive is to promote responsible driving habits, discourage drunken driving, and ensure safer roads for all citizens.
