Pala Predicts 2028 Three-Way Fight, Hits VPP

Pala attributed this downward trend to growing public disillusionment following governance missteps at the regional level.

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Vincent Pala has asserted that the political momentum of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) is steadily waning across the state, paving the way for a definitive three-cornered electoral contest in the upcoming polls.

Reflecting on the shifting political dynamics compared to the 2024 elections—during which a strong social media wave fueled the VPP—Pala noted that ground realities have shifted dramatically.

Drawing from his recent visits to various constituencies, he observed that VPP’s support base has notably receded in areas like Mylliem, Pynursla, and across the Jaintia Hills.

While acknowledging that the party previously commanded massive backing in regions like Sohra and border sectors, he maintained that their support is “going down day by day.”

Pala attributed this downward trend to growing public disillusionment following governance missteps at the regional level, specifically pointing to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

He alleged that decisions within the council have lacked transparency and accountability, noting that several traditional chiefs or Syiems have been dropped.

Pointing to these administrative shortcomings, Pala questioned how a party struggling to manage local council affairs could be entrusted with responsibilities in Shillong or New Delhi, emphasizing that the electorate of Meghalaya is politically astute and cannot be easily misled.

Looking ahead to the electoral equation, Pala predicted that the contest will ultimately crystallize into a triangular fight involving the Congress, the VPP, and the NPP.

While noting that the final public verdict will remain unformed until election dates are officially announced, the MPCC chief expressed confidence that the electorate’s growing critical evaluation of regional administration will benefit the Congress as the political landscape resets.
