SHILLONG: Former Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) president and current MLA Paul Lyngdoh has called for open communication and restraint to defuse escalating tensions between the Meghalaya state government and the KSU.
Lyngdoh stressed the importance of uninterrupted dialogue between government officials and student leaders, emphasizing that constructive engagement is essential to avoid ego clashes and prevent actions that could harm state revenue or Meghalaya’s public image.
Lyngdoh’s appeal comes amid growing resentment from the KSU over police and legal actions against its members, most recently the arrest of Samuel Kharbani, General Secretary of the KSU Shillong Mihngi Circle.

The union alleges Kharbani was arrested without sufficient evidence and claims bias in police action—questioning why no arrests have been made following violence during the Shree Cement public hearing at Lum Syrman.
The KSU has issued a three-day ultimatum to the government to arrest those responsible for the public hearing violence, warning that failure to do so will result in the resumption of state-wide agitations.
Lyngdoh urged both sides to carefully weigh their actions and maintain open channels for negotiation to resolve the crisis peacefully.
