SHILLONG: Sankardev College celebrated its Foundation Day-cum-Graduation Day on Wednesday, marking another milestone since its establishment in 1962.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui, chief guest at the event, congratulated graduates and urged them to look beyond government jobs, encouraging exploration in entrepreneurship, traditional occupations, and emerging fields.
Rymbui emphasized the value of respecting all professions and making the most of educational opportunities.
The ceremony included the presentation of citations to 84 graduate and 27 postgraduate students, recognition of technical proficiency, and felicitation of internship partners and faculty. Students also showcased cultural performances.

The college magazine, Academia, was released at the event.
Highlights included a research project by the Botany and Environmental Science departments on soil properties in the Shillong Agglomeration, and a focus on the college’s vocational and professional courses aimed at boosting employability.
Founded on September 2, 1962, Sankardev College is affiliated with North-Eastern Hill University, currently enrolling about 1,200 students and offering a range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and skill-based programmes.
