SHILLONG: Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Meghalaya, conducted a major raid at the residence of a “notorious” drug supplier, Rahul Chhetri, in Lower Rynjah, Shillong, and seized a huge cache of illegal narcotics and cash.
During the operation, carried out in accordance with the provisions of the NDPS Act, the ANTF team recovered 2,060 Nitrazepam tablets valued at approximately ₹8.24 lakh, along with 23 plastic soap boxes containing suspected heroin weighing 237 grams, estimated to be worth ₹47.40 lakh in the illegal market. A cash amount of ₹27,300 was also seized from the premises.
However, the prime accused, Rahul Chhetri, managed to flee the scene in a purple Maruti Ertiga bearing registration number ML-10B-5347 upon the arrival of the police and remains absconding. In connection with the case, two individuals have been arrested and are currently in custody.
According to officials, the arrested persons are suspected to be part of a larger organised inter-state drug trafficking syndicate. The ANTF has launched an extensive investigation to establish forward and backward linkages and identify other members involved in the network.
The Meghalaya ANTF has appealed to the public to share any information regarding the accused, his associates, or other individuals involved in drug trafficking. Authorities have assured that the identity of informants will be kept confidential and suitable rewards will be provided for credible information.
Superintendent of Police of ANTF-Meghalaya, Vikash Kumar reaffirmed the department’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and urged citizens to cooperate in the fight against narcotics.
