SHILLONG: Shillong took center stage today as police riders from across the Northeast embarked on a 3,340-kilometer motorcycle rally to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on October 31.
The event, honoring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birth anniversary, was flagged off by Home Minister Prestone Tynsong, alongside ADGP Anurag Agarwal, IGP D.N.R. Marak, and other senior police officials.
The rally, themed “Fight Against Drugs,” features 14 riders—five from Meghalaya Police, five from Mizoram Police, and four from the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB)—who will travel to Ekta Nagar (Statue of Unity) in Gujarat.
The event highlights both national integration and a unified mission against drug abuse.

Home Minister Tynsong emphasized the state’s holistic approach to tackling drug abuse, including the establishment of a dedicated Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF).
He extended his best wishes to the riders and called on the public to support the campaign for a drug-free future.
ADGP Agarwal and IGP Marak underscored the rally’s significance, noting Meghalaya’s role as a major transit state for drugs and the importance of nationwide coordination in combating the menace.
The North East Zone riders’ journey is part of a nationwide initiative involving all states and central police forces, culminating at the Statue of Unity on National Unity Day.
