The Wait is Over! Polling to GHADC on April 10; Counting on April 14

The Cabinet has finalized the battle plan for the Garo Hill's Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections. 

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Cabinet Minister and Spokesperson of MDA II government, Wailadmiki Shylla broke down a series of “game-changing” decisions—from tightening police accountability to setting the stage for the upcoming polls.

The wait is over for the Garo Hills. The Cabinet has finalized the battle plan for the Garo Hill’s Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections.

On March 9: Official call for constituencies to elect representatives.

March 16: The high-stakes deadline for filing nominations (3:00 PM).

March 17: The final window for candidates to withdraw.

April 10: Polling Day (7:00 AM – 4:00 PM).

April 14: The big reveal—Counting Day.

Shylla said, the government is officially establishing the Police Accountability Commission.

Retired IAS officer Peter Ingti will take the helm as Chairman, joined by Shrimati V.R. Syiem (IAS Retd.) as a member. To support this, an amendment to the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010 was approved, ensuring the force stays answerable to the people.

The Cabinet also cleared the Meghalaya Flood Plain Zoning Bill, 2026, a crucial step toward smarter, safer urban planning to protect citizens from natural disasters.

The Cabinet approved revised budgets for several massive sports projects to ensure they meet international IOA standards.

Expect world-class upgrades (including new diving pools and expanded seating), Aquatic & Tennis Complex and the new Hostel Block in Umsawli; Sunny Hills and the Pa Togan Nengminza Sangma Athletics Stadium in Tura.

The State Reservation Policy was also on the table. While the Cabinet has reviewed the Expert Committee’s report, they are keeping the details under wraps for just a few more days. The full report is scheduled to be tabled on the floor of the House this Wednesday.

Furthermore, the Reorganization Cell will now operate under the Home (Political) Department to streamline government operations.
