SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has reaffirmed the stability of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government amid widespread speculation that several United Democratic Party (UDP) MLAs may defect to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Tynsong emphasized that the National People’s Party (NPP) alone holds a comfortable majority with 33 MLAs, well above the threshold required for a stable government.
Addressing the media, Tynsong described the defection rumors as internal matters of the concerned party and said the NPP has no reason to intervene.

He assured the public that the current government is secure, fully capable of completing its term, and well-positioned to continue beyond the present tenure.
Tynsong highlighted the MDA coalition’s transparent and effective coordination, noting that partner parties regularly bring issues to the Chief Minister or Deputy Chief Minister for resolution.
He suggested that any sudden political developments are likely rooted in internal party dynamics rather than broader governance issues.
