SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has expressed confidence that the Voice of the People Party (VPP) may not be able to replicate the political wave it enjoyed during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in future contests, including the upcoming by-election to the Shillong Parliamentary seat.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, UDP general secretary Titosstarwell Chyne said the party has already announced its candidate and has begun mobilising support through its district and circle units, despite the election schedule yet to be announced.
Chyne said feedback gathered by the party during recent interactions with the public indicates that voter sentiment is gradually changing and that there is growing acceptance of the UDP candidate among the electorate.
He maintained that political trends are never permanent and can shift from one election to another, depending on prevailing circumstances and public perception.
According to Chyne, the current political landscape differs significantly from the situation that existed during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. He said the UDP remains optimistic about its chances and is confident of putting up a strong performance in the forthcoming Shillong parliamentary by-election.
