SHILLONG: The alliance between the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) under the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) banner faces a pivotal moment, with its future to be determined after the upcoming MP by-election.
Amid growing political tension and public statements of non-cooperation, UDP General Secretary Titostarwell Chyne confirmed that a joint meeting will be held post-election to resolve differences and decide whether the alliance will continue or be dissolved.
The uncertainty follows the HSPDP’s public move to distance itself from supporting any candidate or party in the interim parliamentary contest, despite being in a formal alliance with the UDP.

Although the HSPDP has not issued an official written notice, its public refusal to back the UDP candidate has effectively ended joint campaigning.
Chyne emphasized that the UDP will not make any immediate decisions regarding the alliance before the by-election.
Leadership from both parties will meet after the polls to address misunderstandings and make a final decision on the RDA’s future.
