SHILLONG: The President of the Voice of People Party (VPP), Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit, has launched a fierce critique against the functioning of the Meghalaya Government, openly accusing the administration of merely “wasting time” on preparing for the 2028 general elections.
In a dramatic statement, Basaiawmoit called the nature of the state’s politics “comical”, asserting that a government that should be dedicating its time to serving the public is instead engrossed in election campaigning.
”The Chief Minister, who is supposed to be in his office, is instead busy visiting various constituencies to promote and uplift the candidates they are preparing for the year 2028,” he blasted.
The VPP President expressed deep concern over the lack of accessibility, revealing that the VPP has tried to meet the Chief Minister on multiple occasions, but were forced to hand over their official representations to staff members at his office.
Basaiawmoit claimed that this pattern of governmental operation clearly demonstrates the administration’s “great disappointment and fear,” particularly concerning the VPP’s growing influence.
The VPP leader further alleged that when ruling party members engage with the public, they are actively trying to incite them and level baseless accusations against the VPP.
”We have received information that when they visit the public, they mislead them by claiming the VPP is a Christian political party, an allegation which the VPP has clarified countless times is not true,” he stated, questioning whether the ruling parties even need the support of the Christian faithful.
Basaiawmoit clarified that the VPP approaches the public with a message of unity and religious neutrality, contrasting this with other parties’ alleged attempts to incite the public through divisive tactics.
He warned the public not to be swayed by the ruling party’s actions, which he claimed are not about developing constituencies but about gathering people to “dazzle” them with the illusion that the Chief Minister can achieve anything if the public remains on his side.
The VPP President strongly urged the public to reject “divisive narratives” that only serve the self-interest of those aiming to secure power for a select few.
