SHILLONG: The Voice of the People Party (VPP) has called for the immediate removal of Vijay Kumar Mantri, Commissioner & Secretary of the Education Department, accusing the department of prioritizing bureaucratic efficiency over the real needs of Meghalaya’s education sector.
In a statement, VPP President Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit alleged that key policy decisions—such as school rationalisation, pay structures, and teacher service conditions—are being driven by a rigid focus on administrative streamlining.
The party argued that such policies conflict with Meghalaya’s unique social and geographical realities, causing severe uncertainty for educators and threatening the quality and accessibility of education across the state.

The VPP denounced these measures as “anti-people” and indifferent to the needs of local communities, teachers, and students.
The party urged the government to appoint new leadership committed to meaningful engagement with teachers and putting students’ and public interests above administrative convenience.
