NONGSTOIN: Tensions flared at the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday as Voice of the People Party (VPP) supporters led by Nongstoin MDC Dr. Juristman Iawphniaw confronted police while attempting to submit evidence of alleged corruption in the ongoing Staff Nurse recruitment drive.
The standoff escalated when supporters forced open the entry gate after initially being blocked by police.
Once inside, physical and verbal altercations broke out as officers tried to restrain Dr. Iawphniaw and key supporters.
Video footage captured a brief confrontation between police and the MDC.

Dr. Iawphniaw claimed to be submitting documentary evidence of illegal monetary transactions involving job seekers and alleged middlemen linked to Staff Nurse appointments under the Health and Family Welfare Department.
The protest followed his earlier disruption of interview proceedings on September 29, demanding their suspension pending an investigation.
Superintendent of Police Herbert Pyniaid Kharkongor confirmed the group dispersed after receiving a copy of an official inquiry order from the Deputy Commissioner.
The recruitment interviews subsequently resumed.
The district administration strongly condemned Dr. Iawphniaw’s actions, describing his entry into the interview hall as an unauthorized disruption.
Officials stated the recruitment process was merit-based and urged candidates to avoid touts, encouraging anyone with concrete evidence to submit complaints directly to the Deputy Commissioner.
