SHILLONG: In continuation of intensified enforcement drives across the city, a naka checking operation was conducted at the Laitumkhrah Police Point on Friday evening, with the deployment of 30 traffic personnel and 15 Special Operations Team (SOT) members.
The drive witnessed active participation from members of the Laitumkhrah Dorbar, including the Rangbah Shnong and Rangbah Dong, who extended their support to the enforcement efforts and urged authorities to continue such initiatives on a regular basis.
During the operation, fines amounting to approximately ₹1.5 lakh were imposed for various traffic violations. Authorities detected several cases of drunk driving, along with multiple instances of vehicles carrying illegal modifications.
In a serious incident during the drive, a scooty rider allegedly attempted to run over UBC SM Sangma while trying to evade checking. Police have initiated necessary legal action in connection with the incident.
Officials stated that the East Khasi Hills District will continue such drives to ensure safer and more secure roads for the public.
