Adhir Chowdhury Predicts Congress Return Across NE

Launching a sharp critique against the BJP, Chowdhury accused the ruling party of dividing people along religious lines.

SHILLONG: Senior Lok Sabha Opposition leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury addressed party workers and leaders on October 28 at the Congress Bhawan on Thana Road in Shillong.

During his address, he asserted that the Indian National Congress is actively revitalizing its political foundations across the Northeastern region and is determined to reclaim all the ground and support it has previously lost.

Chowdhury acknowledged that the party has suffered setbacks due to leaders defecting to rival political parties, pointing out that the Congress has had to work hard in Meghalaya and other Northeastern states to regain its lost support base following these high-profile defections.

Launching a sharp critique against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chowdhury accused the ruling party of dividing people along religious lines and pursuing narrow politics that have harmed the Congress.

He alleged that various regional parties in the Northeast have collaborated with the ruling government to suppress Congress’s influence and sustain their own rule.

Despite these challenges, Chowdhury expressed unwavering optimism about the party’s future in the region, declaring with conviction that if not immediately, the entire Northeast will eventually return to the Congress fold.

Hailing the dedication of the local cadres, he said, “Congress workers still possess the spirit and diligence to work for the party,” highlighting the enthusiasm and energy of the members who gathered at the Shillong office.

Concluding his address, Chowdhury emphasized that the Congress party will continue to strengthen its organizational machinery to firmly re-establish its mass support across the entire Northeastern region.
