SHILLONG: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Vincent Pala has voiced strong confidence in the party’s revival, citing growing public disillusionment with the BJP’s unfulfilled promises and infighting within the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA).
Pala criticized the BJP for failing to deliver on its pledge to resolve the state’s coal mining crisis within 180 days, calling the ongoing impasse a statewide issue rather than a localized one.
Pala argued that defectors who left Congress for the BJP or due to MDA disputes have been left empty-handed as pre-poll promises remain unmet.
Acknowledging past setbacks, Pala said Congress has regained its footing and maintains resilient grassroots support, buoyed by public frustration over BJP governance, unemployment, law and order, and education sector challenges.
Contrasting the Congress’s inclusive ideology with what he called the privileged focus of rival parties, Pala claimed that the NPP and UDP lack local candidates and often rely on “imported” figures.
He emphasized Congress’s reliance on its own cadre and the difficulty of detaching Meghalaya’s electorate from deep-rooted traditions.
Pala concluded that, despite realignments and defections, the state’s wise voters will ultimately deliver a decisive mandate in 2028, and Congress stands ready for a comeback.
