SHILLONG: Meghalaya police are investigating two recent incidents of vehicle destruction in different districts.

In West Khasi Hills, authorities are probing a suspicious early-morning fire after the Langpih Border Outpost was alerted at around 7:00 AM by the Mawsikar village headman about a burnt Hyundai i10 (AS 01 DH 7347).

The car, belonging to an Assam Police personnel stationed nearby, was found engulfed in flames around 4:00 AM on August 26.

Police questioned local leaders and inspected the scene but found no incendiary materials or immediate clues.

Assam Police have also begun their own inquiry, though no formal FIR has yet been filed with local police. The situation in Mawsikar remains calm.

In a separate incident in East Jaintia Hills, five to six masked assailants attacked and torched a Mahindra Bolero pickup (ML-11-A-8668) with a petrol bomb near Lad Jarain, Sutnga Elaka, on Tuesday afternoon.

The pickup, hired by Shree Cement Ltd, was carrying three company staff and a driver, all of whom escaped unharmed. Police have registered a case and launched an intensive search for the unidentified attackers.

Both cases remain under active investigation as police work to establish motives and identify those responsible.
