SHILLONG: Members of the High Court Bar Association and Shillong Bar Association on Saturday met Meghalaya Governor C.H. Vijayashankar, submitting a memorandum demanding the removal of Advocate General Amit Kumar.
Senior Advocate V.K. Jindal told reporters that the delegation approached the Governor after Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma publicly praised Kumar as “an asset to Meghalaya,” a statement the associations felt was made without consulting the local legal community.
The executive bodies and senior advocates of both associations met the Governor at Raj Bhavan, where he heard their concerns in detail.

While acknowledging his constitutional limitations, the Governor assured the delegation that the memorandum would be thoroughly examined and forwarded to the Chief Minister with a request to place the matter before the Cabinet.
He also agreed to request the Cabinet to consider establishing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for future Advocate General appointments.
Shillong Bar Association General Secretary T.L. Jyrwa said the Bar remains committed to raising its concerns and exercising its right to protest, emphasizing that members have the right to express their views on key appointments.
