SHILLONG: Voice of the People Party (VPP) chief Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has strongly criticized the Meghalaya government’s handling of the ongoing dispute involving Advocate General Amit Kumar, expressing complete solidarity with the legal fraternity’s demand for his removal.
Basaiawmoit accused the administration of indifference and a dismissive attitude toward grievances raised by professional bodies, particularly when court proceedings have been paralyzed amid public outcry.
Emphasizing the principles of democratic governance, Basaiawmoit said the government must be accountable and responsive to collective concerns, rather than acting with “adamant and arrogant” posturing.
He argued that shielding controversial figures undermines public trust and institutional integrity.
The VPP president reaffirmed the party’s full support for the legal community’s call for Amit Kumar’s immediate removal, stating that such action is essential to restore public confidence and uphold the rule of law in Meghalaya.
