SHILLONG: Voice of the People Party (VPP) President Ardent Miller Basaiamoit has announced that the party’s state committee will organize a peaceful protest march to encircle the main secretariat on August 6.

The decision comes amid growing public frustration over several unresolved grievances across Meghalaya.

Speaking about the upcoming agitation, Basaiamoit noted that during his extensive visits across the state, he observed widespread anger among citizens regarding multiple pressing issues.

He pointed out that the VPP previously submitted a formal representation outlining ten specific concerns affecting students and the general public.

The party president emphasized that the forthcoming march should serve as a serious warning to the government.

Basaiamoit clarified that the August 6 rally is intended to be strictly peaceful, with no intention of causing law and order disruptions.

He distinguished between storming the secretariat and conducting a peaceful march, reiterating that the objective is to visibly demonstrate public dissatisfaction over matters repeatedly brought to the government’s attention.

He warned that agitation efforts would continue if the administration remains indifferent.

Basaiamoit urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to be present in the capital to witness the turnout, expressing confidence that people from all walks of life who feel aggrieved by the government’s stance will participate.

He also cautioned against any attempts to disrupt the event, stating that the VPP would not tolerate efforts to sabotage the peaceful program nor accept responsibility for external disturbances.

Appealing to all citizens affected by current government policies, Basaiamoit concluded that the demonstration aims to hold the administration accountable and ensure it does not act unilaterally.
