SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, joined by Arts and Culture Minister Sanbor Shullai and Laitumkhrah MLA Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, visited Brightwell Bungalow in Barik and Dhanketi to meet street vendors relocated from Laitumkhrah and nearby areas.
During the visit, the Chief Minister distributed cheques for a ₹20,000 relocation grant to each vendor—₹10,000 deposited directly and the remainder disbursed in monthly installments of ₹2,000.
Adding a personal touch, Sangma interacted with vendors and sampled momos at the new food stalls.

He thanked the business community for their cooperation during the relocation process and noted that the Urban Affairs Minister had voluntarily handed over property to ensure the creation of a permanent, structured market space.
Sangma announced future development plans for the vending sites, including public toilets, decorative lighting, and live music performances to enhance the market’s appeal.
He encouraged commuters, tourists, and residents to visit the new market areas and enjoy the diverse local cuisine.
