Congress Seeks CEC’s Resignation Over ‘Electoral Fraud’

He claimed the ruling party has shielded the poll panel to protect its own interests and criticized statutory changes.

SHILLONG: Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the ruling party of orchestrating the “largest electoral fraud” in the nation’s history, demanding the immediate resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.

Chowdhury, addressing a press conference in Shillong alongside Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) leaders, alleged that mass voter disenfranchisement—affecting over 13 crore citizens—has gravely compromised Indian democracy.

Chowdhury cited the deletion of voters on a scale larger than the population of several European countries and accused the ECI of overriding dissent within its own ranks to enforce arbitrary decisions.

He claimed the ruling party has shielded the poll panel to protect its own interests and criticized statutory changes that removed the Chief Justice of India from the ECI selection committee.

He dismissed recent special enrollment drives in Meghalaya and other states as cosmetic fixes, arguing that only a complete overhaul of the electoral framework can restore credibility.

Chowdhury credited Rahul Gandhi with raising early alarms about electoral integrity and called for a massive rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on November 1 to defend the Constitution and demand accountability.
