Conrad Sangma Bats for NPP Growth in Nagaland, Highlights Coalition Challenges

NPP President Conrad Sangma said the presence of the party’s national leadership reflects its strong commitment to the campaign.

KOHIMA/SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) National President Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday campaigned in Nagaland for NPP candidate I. Abenjang, who is contesting the by-election to the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency.

Addressing an election rally, Sangma reaffirmed the party’s commitment to expanding its footprint in Nagaland and contributing to the broader vision of growth and prosperity across the Northeast.

“NPP is committed to serve the people of the constituency and the state of Nagaland and bring it into its mission for growth and prosperity of the Northeast,” he said.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the rally, Sangma stressed that the NPP maintains a clear and independent political identity, even while being part of coalition arrangements.

“We have always maintained that NPP has its own independent identity. We are very clear about this,” he said, adding that the party does not engage in negative politics but focuses on building trust through its principles and ideology.

He underscored that his presence at the rally was a show of full support for the party’s candidate and leadership, stating that the NPP would work hard to secure victory in the by-election.

Sangma also acknowledged the inherent challenges of coalition politics, noting that such arrangements often come with constraints and complexities. However, he maintained that the NPP continues to contest elections based on a positive agenda and remains committed to strengthening its organisational base.

“Challenges are a natural part of coalition politics, but we fight elections on our principles and beliefs, and we go to the people with that message,” he said.

Highlighting party unity, Sangma said that despite certain leaders being unable to attend, the presence of the party’s national leadership reflects its strong commitment to the campaign.

The Koridang by-election is witnessing a multi-cornered contest, with candidates including Daochier I. Imchen of the BJP, I. Abenjang of the NPP, T. Chalokumba Ao of the Congress, and Independent candidates Imtiwapang Kichu, Major Toshikaba (Retd), and Imchatoba Imchen.
