FKJGP Flags Poor JNV Construction

In Mawsynram, cable damage from road construction was cited; in Lawbah, a land dispute caused service disruption.

SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) South East Khasi Border Circle, led by president Kyrmen Shangdiar, has called for intervention over alleged substandard construction at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Mawsynram, and persistent Jio network issues in Mawsynram and Lawbah.

Following an October 2 inspection at JNV Mawsynram, the FKJGP submitted a representation to the JNV Regional Office in Shillong, urging action against poor-quality work reportedly carried out by an Assam-based contractor under MTDC, Manipur’s supervision.

JNV authorities acknowledged the deficiencies and said the matter had been reported, but the FKJGP expressed concern that no effective action had been taken.

Shangdiar urged MTDC to conduct a joint inspection to verify deficiencies and ensure school safety.

The Regional Officer assured that the issue would be escalated to MTDC’s Managing Director.

FKJGP also called on JNV authorities to expedite the shifting of students to completed permanent buildings, which have already been handed over by CPWD.

Separately, the FKJGP raised concerns about poor Jio connectivity in the region.

In Mawsynram, cable damage from road construction was cited; in Lawbah, a land dispute caused service disruption.

The company assured improvements in Mawsynram within two months and said a team would soon survey Lawbah for a new tower, with the FKJGP suggesting alternative locations in nearby villages if needed.
