GHADC Polls 2026: AL Hek Confirms BJP is “Battle-Ready” for Garo Hills

The party is currently in the "intense screening" phase, meticulously reviewing applications from ticket seekers.

SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially sounded the war bugle for the 2026 Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections. Senior BJP leader and cabinet minister, AL Hek, confirmed today that the party is gearing up for a significant showdown in the Garo Hills.

Speaking to reporters, Hek revealed that the party has already initiated its groundwork. While the GHADC consists of 29 constituencies, the BJP is prioritizing quality over quantity.

The party is currently in the “intense screening” phase, meticulously reviewing applications from ticket seekers.

Hek indicated that the BJP aims to contest approximately 60% of the seats, focusing specifically on strongholds where the party has a high probability of victory.

“We are keeping a close watch on those seeking tickets. After a thorough assessment, we will officially announce the names and the final number of candidates,” Hek stated.

When questioned about the party’s relationship with the National People’s Party (NPP), Hek maintained a diplomatic yet firm stance.

While acknowledging the BJP’s role as a partner in the MDA-I and MDA-II governments, he suggested that any seat-sharing or alliance strategy would depend entirely on mutual agreements and the “winnability” of candidates from both sides.

”The goal is the welfare of Meghalaya. Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the party has delivered sustainable development across the nation and within our state,” Hek added.

By starting their preparations early, the BJP intends to position itself as a formidable force against local rivals, leveraging the “Modi Factor” and their track record of central development projects.
