SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has declared plans to escalate its agitation against the state government, condemning the recent police raid on its headquarters and the arrest of three senior leaders as acts of state repression that will only heighten public anger.
Former KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar sharply criticized the police operation, during which officers arrested three union leaders, vandalized the KSU office, and damaged nearby homes.
Marngar argued that the government’s heavy-handed tactics—carried out in a residential neighborhood without the involvement of local village authorities and likened to anti-militant actions—were unacceptable.
Despite the crackdown, Marngar asserted that the KSU’s movement derives its strength from broad grassroots support, not just from a few individuals.

He warned that repressive measures would only further energize their cause and expressed disappointment that the government chose confrontation over dialogue on the union’s long-standing five-point charter of demands.
Following a joint meeting of current and former KSU leaders, the union resolved to continue its agitation.
Marngar accused police of harassing residents with abusive language and threats during the raid, and insisted that arrests would not deflect attention from the union’s core demands.
He announced that the KSU would soon disclose its next steps, holding the state government responsible for any consequences resulting from its refusal to address the issues peacefully.
