SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister and NPP leader Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday confirmed that the National People’s Party (NPP) has decided to field a candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election from the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency.
Speaking to media persons, Tynsong said the party leadership has taken a firm decision to contest the seat, while the final candidate will be announced after due deliberation by the party’s election committee.
“The party has decided to field a candidate for the by-election. The name will be finalized by the election committee, and we will inform you at the appropriate time,” he stated.
On the issue of the Rajya Sabha nomination, the Deputy Chief Minister clarified that the party is yet to receive any official notification regarding the process.
“We have not received any notification from the Election Commission or the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha so far,” Tynsong said.
The developments come amid growing political activity in the state, with parties preparing for the upcoming electoral process.
