SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute (MATI) continues to provide valuable guidance and support to students across the state preparing for various competitive examinations, helping them better understand how to prepare effectively and compete with confidence.
Kerlang Sohkhlet, a Khasi student preparing for competitive exams, shared his experience of joining ALS in Shillong soon after college.
Having appeared for the examination three times, he is currently preparing for the Main Examination.
Sohkhlet emphasized that self-study and consistent focus are essential for success, but also credited ALS coaching and guidance for strengthening his preparation.
He noted, “The quality of study is more important than simply counting the number of hours.” He also highlighted the motivational benefits of studying with friends pursuing similar goals.
Sohkhlet observed that technology has become an indispensable tool, enabling access to a wide range of online resources and materials.

However, he underscored the importance of disciplined time management and making the most of available resources.
Dismissing the notion that aspirants must travel to Delhi for effective preparation, he stressed that success depends on how students utilize their time and resources, regardless of location.
Grateful for his family’s encouragement and financial support, Sohkhlet also acknowledged the government’s financial assistance, which, though modest, has been particularly helpful for students from weaker economic backgrounds.
Abarister Manners, another aspirant, recounted discovering the competitive examination field during his final year of BA. He has attempted the exam four times and feels better prepared each time. Manners traveled to Delhi for coaching, where he benefited from direct interaction with teachers, noting some differences compared to coaching received in Shillong.
After clearing the Preliminary Examination, he is now focused on preparing for the Main Exam and other competitive tests, including the Meghalaya Civil Service (MCS).
Manners praised MATI for providing coaching opportunities and welcomed the financial support from the government.
He encouraged fellow students to work hard and leverage modern technology and available resources, emphasizing their role in helping aspirants reach their goals.
Both aspirants highlighted the value of government initiatives and community support in empowering Meghalaya’s students to compete successfully in national and state-level examinations.
