SHILLONG: Just as residents were relieved following the safe recovery of a missing 14-year-old girl from Umpling, another case has emerged. A 17-year-old girl from Mawlai Nongkwar has gone missing.
The teenager, currently studying in class 7, is the eldest of five siblings. According to her mother, the girl left home around 3 PM on October 12 to visit friends, despite not having permission.
“She asked my permission to go to her friend’s house, but I didn’t allow her. I thought she was still at home. Later, my 9-year-old son told me she had left,” the mother said. She added that she had instructed her daughter to seek her father’s permission, which the girl also did not do. After the girl failed to return home overnight, an FIR was filed early Monday morning.
The girl does not have a mobile phone. During the family’s search, her 14-year-old cousin reported last seeing her at Lad Umthlong, where the missing girl had said she was going to Mawlai Mawiong. The family does not know her friends’ exact locations and is appealing for help.
The mother expressed her fear, noting that recent incidents of missing children in the area have heightened her concerns as a parent.
Authorities are investigating the case, and locals have been urged to report any information regarding the girl’s whereabouts.
