SHILLONG: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Dr. B.D.R. Tiwari today reviewed the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 via video conference with district and election officials across Meghalaya.

The review covered progress in notice delivery, hearing processes, and efforts to address mapping discrepancies in the Draft Electoral Roll, which currently lists 21,69,243 electors.

Dr. Tiwari reported that 6,51,735 notices have been generated, of which 6,20,730 have been delivered, with 31,005 pending.

He directed officials to expedite delivery and ensure every elector has the opportunity to attend hearings and submit required documents.

So far, 2,08,870 hearings have been conducted, resulting in 384 electors found ineligible after due process.

The CEO emphasized that no deletions occur without fair hearings and that receipt of a notice does not mean automatic removal from the roll.

A total of 2,22,786 electors fall under the No Mapping category, with 4,28,949 identified mapping discrepancies.

Since the Draft Roll’s publication, 12,951 new applications have been received. Dr. Tiwari appreciated the involvement of political parties and the appointment of 1,814 Booth Level Agents statewide.

Due to last month’s disruptions in Shillong, the SIR schedule has been extended by 14 days.

The last date for filing Claims and Objections is now September 18, 2026, with all hearings and disposals to be completed by October 17.

The Final Electoral Roll will be published on October 21.

Dr. Tiwari urged all eligible electors to use the extended period, respond to notices, attend hearings, and provide necessary documents.

Those not listed in the Draft Roll should submit Form 6 with supporting documents by September 18.
