NONGPOH: In a heartbreaking incident triggered by relentless monsoon rains, a child lost their life and three others were injured when a landslide buried a home in Umlamphlang village, Mawhati Constituency, Ri-Bhoi district.
The disaster struck in the early hours following days of heavy downpour that had saturated the area.
The intense rainfall caused a hillside to collapse, sending a mass of earth crashing down onto a house below. The sudden landslide completely destroyed the dwelling, resulting in the tragic and instant death of a young child, while three other occupants sustained injuries in the wreckage.

Upon receiving reports of the tragedy, Mawhati MLA Bah Charles Marngar acknowledged the devastating event and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and the injuries suffered by the family.
Extending heartfelt condolences, he pledged support to help the victims’ family cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
