SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Health Department has begun urgent upgrades to medical infrastructure and patient data verification in Byrnihat, in response to recent directives from the High Court of Meghalaya.
An inspection team was sent to the industrial hub to assess local healthcare facilities and review patient records amid concerns over pollution-linked health issues.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Wailadmiki Shylla acknowledged the presence of health cases in the region but noted that patient figures reported by local centers have not matched the higher numbers cited by the court.
He explained that the department has not yet found conclusive evidence to support the statistics referenced in court proceedings.

Upgrades will include new X-ray units, the appointment of qualified radiology technicians, and the addition of a specialized chest physician.
Minister Shylla assured that all procurement, staffing, and administrative processes are being fast-tracked to ensure compliance with court orders and strengthen healthcare services in Byrnihat.
