SHILLONG: The Meghalaya State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has appealed to the public to report information about any persons from the state who may be missing or uncontactable in Nepal following a flash flood and mudslide that struck parts of the country on August 26.
The disaster has particularly affected Rasuwa district near the Nepal–Tibet border, causing extensive damage to villages, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. Several people have reportedly gone missing or remain uncontactable in the aftermath of the disaster.
In view of the situation, the Executive Director of the State Disaster Management Authority, Meghalaya, has urged family members, relatives, friends, travel agencies, tour operators, and members of the public to share any information concerning persons from Meghalaya who may be stranded, missing, or uncontactable in Nepal.
A dedicated helpline has been made available at 6009924512. Those seeking assistance or providing information can also contact the emergency numbers 112 and 1070, or CM Connect at 1971.
The authorities have requested informants to provide, wherever available, the person’s name and age, contact number, address in Meghalaya, last known location in Nepal, date and time of last communication, along with the name and contact details of the family member or informant.
The information received will be compiled and shared with the concerned authorities for verification and necessary assistance.
The SDMA has appealed for public cooperation and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward at the earliest to help trace and assist persons from Meghalaya who may have been affected by the disaster.
