SHILLONG: The Meghalaya cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, has approved major policy measures including a new MSME facilitation ordinance, regularization of ad-hoc employees, a technical update to local governance law, and the official holiday list for 2027.
A key highlight is the promulgation of the Meghalaya Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Facilitation and Establishment of Operations Ordinance.
Designed to boost the state’s “Ease of Doing Business” ranking, the ordinance will allow MSMEs—particularly those categorized as “white” by the Pollution Control Board—to simultaneously apply for licenses, clearances, and No Objection Certificates (NOCs), speeding up the process for basic municipal and regulatory approvals.
The cabinet also approved the fifth batch of ad-hoc regularizations, bringing the total to nearly 4,000 employees.
This round includes 26 employees appointed on or before December 31 who were previously left out, in compliance with a Supreme Court ruling for regularizing appointees against sanctioned posts.
A minor amendment to the Meghalaya Village and Local Authorities Act, 2015, was approved, updating the term “registered post” to “speed post” in line with nationwide postal standards.
Finally, the cabinet approved the 2027 official holiday list, which remains unchanged from last year except for date adjustments.
