SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has announced that the state government will release student scholarships from its own funds to avoid further delays caused by the late disbursement of funds from the Central Government.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Government College of Engineering at Mawlai Kynton Massar, the Chief Minister said the state has already sought permission from the Centre to use its own funds to clear the pending scholarships. Once the Central funds are released, the state government will reimburse the amount accordingly.
Emphasizing that scholarships are a top priority, Sangma said the decision was taken to ensure that students, especially those from economically weaker backgrounds, do not continue to suffer due to procedural delays.
“The state government has decided not to wait any longer for the release of funds from the Government of India. We will release the scholarships from the state’s own resources,” he stated.
The Chief Minister further assured that both the pending scholarships and the Chief Minister’s Scholarship will be released before Christmas this year.
