SHILLONG: The Meghalaya cabinet, led by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, has approved the write-off of outstanding internal government dues on the books of Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL), clearing the final administrative hurdle for the official closure of the state-run company.
Chief Minister Sangma explained that while employee dues have already been fully settled, the formal winding-up of MCCL was stalled due to pending government liabilities—approximately Rs 8.9 crore in sales tax to the Taxation Department and Rs 0.53 crore in royalty to the Directorate of Mineral Resources.
Since these were internal government dues, the cabinet opted to write them off to avoid redundant transfers between state accounts and prevent further delays.
Sangma emphasized that the decision has no real financial impact on the state exchequer, as the amounts would have simply circulated within government departments.
