SHILLONG: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem is actively engaging with the Health Department to address two critical demands concerning public health infrastructure and staffing within the area — Umshakhen Sub-Centre up-gradation to PHC and urgent posting of doctor at Umden PHC.
The MLA confirmed a recent meeting with the Health Department regarding the long-standing demand and “dream and aspiration” of the people of Raid Mathan for the up-gradation of the Umshakhen Sub-centre to a Primary Health Centre (PHC).
He stated he has been “closely monitoring this issue” and has held discussions with both the department and the concerned minister.
The proposal has already been forwarded to the Planning Department.
The representative expressed high optimism, hoping that the proposal will “get nod from the Finance Department and Legislature” in due course, allowing the community to “achieve this milestone.”
Attention was also drawn to the issue of the Umden PHC, which has been operating without a regular permanent doctor-in-charge for the past few months.
The Nongthluh Mathan Marmain Development Forum met with the MLA to highlight this pressing concern.
Following the meeting, the MLA discussed the matter with the Director and the Commissioner of the Health Department.
An urgent request was made to ensure a doctor is posted to the Umden PHC as soon as possible, emphasizing the need “for the benefit of the people at large”.
The MLA requested the public to “be patient for some time,” assuring them that a doctor will be posted in due course to serve the community. Syiem has reaffirmed his commitment to following up on these critical health sector issues closely.
