SHILLONG: The National People’s Party (NPP) celebrated its 14th Foundation Day and the 79th birth anniversary of its founder, the late P.A. Sangma, with a special event at the party’s Shillong office.
The gathering was attended by key leaders, including Deputy Chief Ministers Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar.
Reflecting on the party’s journey, NPP State President and Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong paid tribute to P.A. Sangma’s legacy, noting the challenges faced since taking over Meghalaya’s governance in 2018.
Tynsong highlighted the NPP-led government’s proactive approach to resolving long-standing issues, such as interstate boundary disputes and the Them Iew Mawlong matter, currently pending before the High Court.

He stressed the importance of resolutions on the Inner Line Permit (ILP), official language status, and uranium mining, all aimed at safeguarding indigenous interests.
Deputy CM Sniawbhalang Dhar emphasized the party’s unity and resolve, pointing to the strong leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma and Tynsong.
Dhar dismissed criticism that the NPP yields to public pressure, stating the party is committed to truth and public welfare.
He credited recent legislative achievements, including opposition to uranium mining and advocacy for Khasi and Garo language recognition, to the party’s vision and leadership.
